MediaFrame is an Open Source streaming media platform in Java which provides a fast, easy to implement and extremely small applet that enables over 97% of web users to view audio/video content without having to rely on external player applications or bulky plug-ins. MediaFrame does not require special servers, software or programming knowledge.Available for immediate download through the public website, http://mediaframe.org/, including the complete source code and source documentation, which are released under the standard license of the free world: the GPL.
MediaFrame offers support for both Mpeg-1 and Mpeg-4 formats and comes with a range of features including the ability to detect a users connection speed. A complete JavaAcript API makes integration with existing web-based platforms simple, while the front end is completely customizable.
“With MediaFrame we’re aiming to simplify streaming to the point where a user can get their home movies online as they can post to a blog or update their homepage. MediaFrame is enabling this sort of usability today said Joseph Denne, the projects coordinator.
MediaFrame was originally developed for use in advertising by London based agency Airlock Limited, who used the technology successfully for clients such as Vodafone and Diesel. The company took the decision to Open Source to help maintain the technology and extend its user base.
