Andy,
From what I've heard from many integrators and Apple support, the
bulletproof way to upgrade is to back up the data to another storage,
build the Xsan 2 solution from a scratch and move the data back.
Upgrading metadata from 1.4.2 to 2.1 is still pretty risky.
