fontconfig compilation troubles

Hi there,

 Trying to do a GTK+-2 installation, I've found it's configure script
is having troubles with the fontconfig libraries while checking for the -lX11
library.

 Investigations let me to believe that my XFree86/freetype/fontconfig setup is
suspect, thus I'm recompiling the works. Now fontconfig is giving me the
following errors during make install:
