Re: minor settings problems |
Just because the config file says 24 bpp doesn't mean that the display
is actually running it. Check the XFree86 log file for the actual value
set when X started up. On my machine it's at /var/log/XFree86.0.log.

I know it....I changed back to 16 from 24 since 24 did not fix it...No I

What is not specific to xfce?
Hi
That screenshot shows you *are* in *16bit* mode.
In the screen section, change "DefaultDepth 16" to "DefaultDepth 24"
BTW, This is really not specific to xfce.
Cheers,
Olivier.

It is 320kb...sorry for the size!
I've tried to go w/ 24bit as well, but didnt work, the wallpaper keeps
the
same way....
My XF86Config-4 file:

Driver "savage"
# VideoRam 131072
EndSection
Section "Monitor"

(I commented two lines, and nothing changed)
Maybe now it is easier to understand :)
Hi,
You are using a 16bit depth display (ie 65535 colors) and gradients
don't look too good with 16bit depth displays. Try to switch to 24bit
depth.
Cheers,
Olivier.

Maybe I was not clear when I told my problem...I am using the 4.0.3
indeed,
which is the last package from Debain...My problem has to do with
settings
of monitor or videocard....
Lemme try to explain again:
There is this bg: xfce-stripes.png...It has some gradient by default,
agreed?? There is (propably) a miss configuration of XF86Config-4
(probably)
which makes this gradient no to be smooth...
I assume that this problem and the icon problem (probably) has nothing
to
do
w/ xfce4 itself, but I thought that someone, while trying to set
xfce4,
had
the same problem and found a solution for it :)
About updating to 4.0.5, since I am new to linux, it might be a good
idea
wait 4.0.5 get to debian repositories before.
(Xfce4 is awesome)
if you have a color gradient option in your desktop settings, then
you
are most definitely not using 4.0.3. i just added the gradient option
to CVS HEAD (dev version 4.1.x) two days ago.
to verify the version you're running, please try running
'xfce4-panel --version' and 'xfdesktop --version' from a terminal
window
(for 4.0.x, xfdesktop won't report a version).
it occurs to me that you may be talking about the default background
pixmap itself (xfce-stripes.png), in which case i'm not sure what to
tell you. i've never heard of this particular problem before.
still assuming that you really are running 4.0.3, you should really
be
running 4.0.5 before reporting any bugs, as they've most likely been
fixed since then.
as for icons, the 4.0.x panel doesn't use any theming for non-default
panel icons. if you can't find a particular icon for a particular app
on your hard drive, that's the app author's or packager's fault, not
ours.

About the icons, I can leave w/ it indeed LOL. Xfce4 is too great
to
let
the
icon issue an issue ;)
i presume you're using CVS xfce. please specify this in advance
next
time...

1) The gradient of the default background is not smooth, u can

I have tried to change XF86Config-4 settings concerning my
videocard
and
monitor (tried to use 16 and 24 bit) but didnt work....
what bit depth _are_ you using? i've only tested at 24bit, and it
looks
fine to me. i have heard that it doesn't look so great at 16bit,
but
i
haven't had the chance to look into it yet.
3) Some of icons of programs Ive installed I cannot find

icon I found in its folder just dun have the Fox!! Gaim icon
could
not

found at all...
yep. icon theming is somewhat broken at present. you'll have to
live
with it ^_~. ah, the joys of CVS...
