Well, you just added a point i hadn't thought of before, the text of the 
image will now be part of the URL, so it may be useful for SEO.
My main reason is I am writing a bigger project to allow umbraco static 
pages to be mirrored to another document root. Having flat URL's, makes 
it much easier to figure out a local path on disk to save dynamically 
generated images to.

This is an implementation of rewriting, exactly the same way that the 
guys at that site do it, using an http module. Mine, is just simpler to 
configure with Umbraco.
