Color problems with 1.3

I downloaded sawfish1.3 along with the newest versions of rep-gtk-0.17 
and librep-0.16.2 and compiled everything last night.  I have a laptop 
and everything worked fine when the laptop was undocked, but this 
morning when I docked it at work, all the sawfish window decorations 
appear to only have 256 colors available (there are no gradients and for 
example STPShiny isn't just a grey bar, it's 1/2 grey and 1/2 purple).  
I know that somewhere sawfish is allowing more than 256k colors because 
my backgrounds are being set with wmsetbg properly.  BTW... I only run 
sawfish, no gnome or kde.  Did I compile something wrong?
