Subject: Re: Will unified installer use already provided software

Since the Unified Installer installs its own version of Plone, which does not interact with the system Plone, it needs all its own site packages. Thus, it installs its own copies of elementtree, PIL, and a few other items. These also do not interact with your system python.

Is the Plone unified installer, when rectifying software requirements, aware
of system-provided software, or does it assume that the installer- provided
software will be used regardless? As an example, if the system already had
ElementTree installed (rhel5, python elementtree 1.2.6-5.i386), would the
Plone installer use its ElementTree rather than that already present?

Also, how can I find out what versions of a pre-req (ElementTree or other)
Plone3.0 has been tested with?

Thanks for any assistance.
