This is also somewhat important. E.g. I do not want to display a fields

I know it is a hard problem especially when you are trying to provide a
very generic mechansim for that. At least I learned that at some point you
can not provide full generic approaches when presentation issues are involved somehow.

Not sure if this is what you want, but there exists a clever DOM script
that hides form fields on a group by group basis depending on if they
are relevant to the current entry.
