Yes, this is at least what I need. At the moment the CMFCollectorNG uses
something similar like ArcheTypes to define the used metadata and properties
that belong to a common category are rendered using a fieldset.


I need fairly fine-grained control over when specific fields appear.

This is also somewhat important. E.g. I do not want to display a fields
belonging to "contact informations" on every form.

I know it is a hard problem especially when you are trying to provide a
very generic mechansim for that. At least I learned that at some point you
can not provide full generic approaches when presentation issues are involved somehow.
