linker problem

Hello folks.
I'm trying to compile pyperl 1.0.1 in a box running Solaris 8, perl
5.8.0 and python 2.1.
When I run python setup.py install, the source is compiled and I get:
ld: fatal: relocations remain against allocatable but non-writable
sections
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1

It installed fine in Solaris 2.7. Please, does anybody know what is
going on?
I found some messages for the same problem, but people needed to replace
their perl or something like that.
