BTW, while looking through the pmwiki.php code the other day, I noticed
that there's an undocumented markup--one can put a backslash at the
very end of a line to keep the end of line from being treated as one.
Thus:

    * the list entry and \
    the first entry
    * the second list entry and \
    the second entry

renders as

    * the list entry and the first entry
    * the second list entry and the second entry

If someone can think of a good place to add this to the documentation,
please be my guest.  :-)
