User authentication

Hello there.
I'm running phpwiki 1.2.10 wrapped by CGIWRAP.
Admin authentication (PHP_AUTH_USER) is not available
(cgiwrap strips it off).

Now my problem (I don't really care about admin ;):
Is there a way to support any kind of authentication,
possibly tagging RecentChanges to show user rather
then IP when available ?
