hosting phpwiki on a 'public' site ??

All,

I am trying to host a phpwiki on a public, comercial web site. They 
support php and phpwiki runs. However uploads assume a fixed user group 
and fixed permissions. There also seem to be syncronazation problems.

As part of a phpwiki howto are there captured notes on how to do this?

Is there a list of dependencies? (i.e. directroy limitations, etc.)

Is there a phpwiki 'test' to determine if the site can support phpwiki??

Much of this may be common knowledge, but to a newbe it is a uphill climb.
