wget 1.8.2 frustration

I'm trying to retrieve a list of files from an ftp server:

wget --passive-ftp -i - -B ftp://ftp.example.com/pub/rpms/

File list is fed in from stdin.

*Why* does wget log out and log in to the ftp server
for each and every file?!  --glob does not exhibit this
behavior.
