Choosing A Webhost:
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation. more...

Re: special characters in FTP URL: msg#00012

Subject: Re: special characters in FTP URL

Hi!

I´m having problems with encoding special characters in the FTP URI.

The URL I´m trying to access has a username with a slash in it, such as
user/name.

And which server/OS will accept that? What for? Just interested...

So the wget command I´m using is:
wget.exe --passive-ftp --glob=on
ftp://user%2Fname:password@ip-adress/*.zip

However, wget writes:
--10:08:04-- ftp://userFname:*password*@ipadress/*.zip
=> `.listing´
Connecting to ip-adress:21 .... connected.
Logging in as userFname ...
Login incorrect.
unlink: No such file or directory

What version are you using? 1.8.2 works on linux, here is the test:

$wget ftp://longuser%2Fname:my-email@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx/pub/README
--21:35:41-- ftp://longuser/name:*password*@ftp.kernel.org/pub/README
=> `README'
Resolving ftp.kernel.org... done.
Connecting to ftp.kernel.org[204.152.189.116]:21... connected.
Logging in as longuser/name ...
Login incorrect.

I needed two RFCs to read and 4 times to run through the debugger to understand that it works... Next time, first I will check what posters are saying...

What is that??

You may try to use quotes around the URL. Like:

wget 'ftp://longuser%2Fname:my-email@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx/pub/README'

I think your Windoze might be messing up %2 environment variable :-) if it is valid name.

Kalin.
