mirroring an FTP site through an HTTP proxy: msg#00015

Subject: mirroring an FTP site through an HTTP proxy
Dear wgeters:

I'm trying get the contents of an FTP site using wget-1.8.2. For that
I'm using the --mirror option of wget. The result is wget getting an
index.html file with the list of files and directories present on the
base directory of the FTP site and nothing else.
I thought this could be because I'm behind an HTTP proxy (Squid 2.2 /
STABLE5), so I've looked for the syntax for HTTP mirroring, but it
seems to be the same.
At the moment I'm a bit puzzled by this behaviour and I couldn't find
any clue on how to make this work.
The command line I'm using is:

  wget --mirror ftp://<user>:<password>@somesite/

I've tried other command line options too, but no matter what I never
get more than the index page.

Thanks in advance for some help on this.

Joan Trondheim
