Which is not neccesarily a good idea if you ever intend to use that file
under
Windows again. Here is the deal. Different OS's have diffrent views of a
text
file. UNIX uses a LF to delimit the end of the line (EOL). MacOS and
AOS/VS use a
CR to delimit EOL (never thought there was anything in common with those
two did
you (-;). DOS derivitive OS's use an end of line sequeunce (instead of one
character) to delimit EOL, and that sequence si CR LF (and we will not talk
about
VMS RMS (-;).

All that being said if the program that ultimately needs to use the text
file is
on Windows (which is a child of DOS [that's it we will start calling
windows,
son of DOS, kind of like son of sam...]) you may have unexplained and
unusual things
occur if you remvoe its carriage returns. On intermediate solution, if you
have
the pesky carriage returns removed temporarily in UNIX, is to use a program
like
unix2dos and dos2unix.

Cheers...james
