Check out imp (www.horde.org); it's an excellent webmail program. We use it
for imaps connections, but users don't need to know that we use a
self-signed cert. We currently secure the web server with a Verisign cert,
but previously had used our own. The nice thing in that case is that, no
matter web browser she uses, the web server's cert can be accepted for just
that use and not stored in the browser's store.
