If you're just doing this on a desktop Windows computer, for yourself,
chances are you don't have to. Just give yourself a bigger browser
cache. You can tweak this in Firefox under the "privacy" settings.

If you're running a tor proxy for yourself and others on the same
network, you might consider making it a dedicated box -- and if it
already is, you might consider making it an Ubuntu server. Ubuntu does
have Polipo packages (not sure how recent, but it has them), and can be
set up in less than an hour.
