And also support it officially in the code, rather than just relying on the
fact that the resolver probably won't find a component with a blank path.

However, on second reflection, I'm not sure this will solve Jonathan's
problem.
Jonathan, could you be more specific about where and how you want to
disable dhandlers? Do you want certain paths to not result in a dhandler
search,
or do you only want the upward dhandler search to reach certain directories?
