I believe the official reason for the lack of browser compatibility is
so that the site would be accessible to people with visual disabilities
(screen readers and so on) - make of that what you will. So maybe if we
can get non IE use classified as a disability they might make it work
for us.

It's even worse in Safari. Lord alone knows what it's like in Lynx - I
didn't bother. So much for the visually disadvantaged in Cork.
