[ILUG-Webdev] Google Suggest: msg#00007

Subject: [ILUG-Webdev] Google Suggest
Via Slashdot. Queries Google as you type to produce faux autocomplete
suggestions. Thought it was pretty unlikely something relatively unusual
like my own name would find it's way into the suggestion list, but no, it
showed up when I got as far as "adam bee". Very cool.

I love the idea of doing stuff like this without requiring a page refresh (I
know that's how Gmail works too, but this is such a /simply/ application it
makes it look easy). Anyone know of any tutorials or references on the
basics? I'm not entirely sure what to Google for. :)

Cristiano writes "As you type into the search box, Google Suggest guesses
what you're typing and offers suggestions in real time. This is similar to
Google's 'Did you mean?' feature that offers alternative spellings for your
query after you search, except that it works in real time." It crashes
Konqueror, but works nicely on Mozilla. Update: 12/11 by J: The engineer who
thought of it, then built it in his "20% time," blogs about the process.
