Ping the maintainers of these distributions, and tell them to get newer
sources from the CVS.

This is what FreeBSD does:

Re: State of the project?

Arnaud Desitter has been fairly active fixing bugs and enhancing functionality over the last couple years. Thank you, Arnaud! If you have an interest in contributing, that would be welcome. You can pull down fresh sources and built it anytime. I was a desktop Linux user for a year or so there and found, for most projects of interest, waiting for a package for my distro was pointless. It was almost always better to just build it from sources. The same approach works fine on Windows - as long as you have a compiler. Now, as for my Tidy wrappers (tidywrap.sf.net) ... these have all suffered terribly from bit rot. Fork my wrappers project, please! Or, better, just take it over. Re: State of the project?

Hi Kevin, I am not one of the maintainer of the project but contribute it when I need to. I understand your fear that the CVS is not as stable as it could be. But there are really a few bugs in the current Tidy code and I think that  the last changes were quite small. I use personally Tidy to build an extension for Firefox called HTML Validator. I use the CVS version because there are several bugs solved in CVS and not in bundles versions. And I must say I never got problems with it ! But maybe, it is true that having one real version per year,  would be better.... Regards, Marc Kevin O'Gorman wrote: I just started looking at this project because my HTML&XHTML book suggests it. I don't want to criticise, but I'm wondering about the state of the project.  I cannot find an RPM for it newer than 2003.  The version I can get for Ubuntu and Gentoo are both vintage 2005.  The project docs say there have been a number of bug fixes and enhancements since then. But it errors out on make with Fedora Core 7, where I really want to use it (see bugs list). The bugs list does not seem to have any resolutions, and there are no really recent code contributions.  The last thing I see on the CVS list asserts that the current tree is "as good as it gets", but I wonder.  This looks a lot like moribund code, which would be a shame if true because it's such a neat product.
