just curious: besides being more up to date, what exactly do you miss on
the old libmpeg2?

The new libmpeg2 removes the need for all the still image hacks, because the new libmpeg2 outputs still images correctly, where the old libmpeg2 had to be hacked and kicked to get still images out of it. The new libmpeg2 removes the need for all those xine specific hacks to decoder.c.

i'm asking because it seems to work just fine here, and imho, changing
what works shouldn't be a priority for 1.0 or RC series... (nevertheless
i agree that in the long run getting up to date with libmpeg2 is a good
thing)

I was not trying to make it a priority, I was only trying to get some help, because I think I have been looking at the code too long, and a new set of eyes might get it fixed.

Miguel

There are a lot of projects out there that want to use libmpeg2.
They all ran into the same problems I did with integrating libmpeg2 with their application when the application provides the image buffers, instead of libmpeg2 allocating them.
Once we get the mpeg2_reset function working, and the original libmpeg2 (the libmpeg2.sf.net one) updated, all projects will benefit. I have already sent some patches to the libmpeg2 list, and that has already helped some other projects.
Before I started work on libmpeg2new, all these other projects were having to make private modifications to libmpeg2 to get it to work with their applications.
So, what I am really doing this for is for the opensource community as a whole instead of just the xine user community.
The current old libmpeg2 xine code works, but there is no easy way to pass back any improvements we make to the opensource community as a whole. The libmpeg2new code makes passing back improvements to the opensource community easy.

Cheers
James
