Initial Comment:
I have RedHat 7.2 with freetype-2.0.1-4 and ft2build.h
isn't there! I had to change in src/leetft.c line 483
the ft2build.h to freetype2/freetype/config/ftbuild.h
 Simply putting ftbuild.h didn't work, as the -Include
dirs were wrong. I made the line that way so it will
find /usr/include/freetype2/freetype/config/ftbuild.h

 No problems were noticed in relation to this change.
Compile completed fine and program works with a fine
looking OSD.
 ./configure should be made a little more clever I think...

btw, compiling at redhat 7.3 with freetype 2.0.9 went
smooth and the ft2build.h was at /usr/include/ft2build.h

I am closing this bug as invalid.  We have RH7.3 packages
anyway.

Was that not: All users of RH-7x below RH-7.3 should be able
to upgrade to 
freetype and freetype-devel-2.0.9 from RH-7.3?
