Summary: DirectFB and linuxdvb not working

Initial Comment:
hi all

if i set output device to DirectFB and start tvtime,
nothing happens. it just starts, and goes off
immediately after it.

nothing on std-err or in /var/log/messages.

just clean exit

vdr:~# tvtime -v
Running tvtime 0.9.12.
Reading configuration from /etc/tvtime/tvtime.xml
Reading configuration from /root/.tvtime/tvtime.xml
cpuinfo: CPU AMD-K6(tm) 3D processor, family 5, model
8, stepping 12.
cpuinfo: CPU measured at 401.045MHz.

those are the last lines given with "strace tvtime"

open("/root/.tvtime/tvtime.xml",
O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC|O_LARGEFILE, 0666) = 0
fstat64(0, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=0, ...}) = 0
old_mmap(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE,
MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) = 0x4001b000
write(0, "<?xml version=\1.0\?>\n<!DOCTYPE "...,

close(0) = 0

setpriority(PRIO_PROCESS, 0, -19) = 0
ioctl(3, RTC_PIE_OFF, 0) = 0
close(3) = 0
exit_group(1) = ?

so? what happens here? did i miss to install any
driver? is my cpu so slow that tvtime just exits ? ;)

any hint very welcome

I'm ripping out the DirectFB module, and so I am closing
this bug as invalid.

It won't be as fast as FBTV. FBTV works by having the
capture card copy frames directly to the framebuffer, the
CPU doesn't touch the video data at all.

tvtime does not support that mode at all, nor will we ever
support it. We need access to the pixel data to allow for
processing of the video and for drawing our OSD. The
quality loss in doing FBTV-style video is not acceptable.

There should be no CPU difference between using DirectFB and
using X. There may be a difference in memory usage
depending on your window manager or what not, but that won't
help you at all, really.

Sorry.

hi vektor

thanks for the reply.

i use FBTV right now which is incredibly fast. that's why i
hope the DirectFB would be a real PLUS in speed. i only have
an old k6-400.

but w/o X i have a lot more resources left for tvtime. maybe
it's still not enough but it surely would be a lot better.

The DirectFB output driver has not been tested at all by me.
It was contributed by Ville Syrjala <syrjala@xxxxxx>. I
have had some reports that it is broken and does not work,
but nobody has offered to fix it and I haven't had time to
ask Ville myself what is up. I'll send him an email.

I experience the same problem. I'm pretty sure I have
everything installed and setup correctly. Most other fb apps
work fine for me like mplayer, fbtv, etc.
