Hay all,
I recently upgraded to xorg-x11 7 in my Gentoo
I am running kernel 2.6.17.
googling I found a post in freedesktop bugzilla , suggesting you may
know why xorg crashs with the ati open drivers.
last lines of /var/log/Xorg.0.log read:
(II) Module fi1236: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 7.0.0, module version = 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 0.8
(II) Loading sub module "tda9885"
(II) LoadModule: "tda9885"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/multimedia/tda9885_drv.so
(II) Module tda9885: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 7.0.0, module version = 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 0.8
(II) RADEON(0): I2C device "Radeon multimedia bus:TDA9885 Alignment-free
IF-PLL" registered at address 0x86.

*** If unresolved symbols were reported above, they might not
*** be the reason for the server aborting.

Backtrace:
0: X(xf86SigHandler+0x86) [0x80b8a06]

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting

(**) RADEON(0): RADEONLeaveVT

after moving /usr/lib/xorg/modules/multimedia/tda9885_drv.so aside I can
boot fine.

I own a 8500 AIW and use xf86-video-ati version 6.5.8.0
