Re: ATI All in Wonder 9600

Making progress, but not solved yet.
I got past the opcode failed request errors below,
by installing newer programs from gatos:
   ATI-6.7.0-exp1.i386.tar.gz
   km_0.6.1.tgz
   avview-0.80.7.tar.gz
Now, when I start_avview, at least it starts, but it doesn't recognize
any km device for video input. When I run start_avview, the console
feedback is the following:
NUM_ADAPTORS=1
Adaptor 0: ATI Radeon Video Adapter
   type input video image
   ports 61
61 ATI Radeon Video Adapter
master=.controlwin row=1 column=0
Looking for km device that corresponds to PCI:01:00.0
km_devs=
master=.controlwin row=1 column=0
In the Avview Control Window, there is no km device listed under card for V4l,
just "none" and "automatic".
As I mentioned, I'm running Debian 3.1 Sarge, with kernel 2.6.8,
which uses X 4.3.
Also: Should I use newer ffmpeg? I still use ffmpeg-0.4.8 which
gatos recommends for avview, but Debian has a newer ffmpeg which is
ffmpeg-0.4.9-pre1.

I for one don't have it working.
I'm running: Debian 3.1 Sarge with 2.6.8 kernel, and the following
versions of gatos software:  ATI-4.3.0, avview-0.80.6, km-0.6.0, ffmpeg-0.4.8.
Those versions I previously had running on a ATI AIW Radeon 7500 and it 
worked.
Now however I have switched to a newer card, the ATI All in Wonder 9600,
256 mb "2006 edition". I installed the ATI-4.3.0 package, and rebooted, and
X didn't work. It seems that version of radeon driver didn't support the 9600.
So I copied the radeon drivers I had backed up, back to /usr/X11R6:
    X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/r128_drv.o
    X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.o
    X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/ati_drv.o
    X11R6/lib/modules/dri/r200_dri.so
    X11R6/lib/modules/dri/radeon_dri.so
Now X works, but when I Start_Avview, I get the following:    
   Adaptor 0: ATI Radeon Video Overlay
      type input image
      ports 61
   61 ATI Radeon Video Overlay
   X Error of failed request:  BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
     Major opcode of failed request:  141 (XVideo)
     Minor opcode of failed request:  14 ()
     Serial number of failed request:  1324
     Current serial number in output stream:  1324
Is there something I can do, config-wise, to get this to work,
at this point?
