Hello,

I need to use ffmpeg librairies under Cygwin for another application
working under Cygwin, so I downloaded the file
ffmpeg-0.4.9-pre1.tar.gz from the site http://sourceforge.net/.

As noted, that's not the best version to be using; at least some, and
perhaps even most, applications will want versions of the libraries
which are more recent than the latest release. If at all possible, try
to download and compile the CVS version.

Unfortunately, when I try to compile it, 'make' ends with the error
message : "strip : ffmpeg : No such file or directory". Can anyone
tell me what to do to solve this problem please?

Not without a lot more information. From that error, it looks like the
problem is that the 'strip' program is attempting to strip unnecessary
symbols from the binary file 'ffmpeg', which does not exist. Either an
earlier part of the build process failed (in which case we need the
messages from there), or your output binary has another name and the
command involved does not know that.

If you are not capable of learning enough about the process to figure
out what information is important, please run the 'make' command, wait
till it fails, run 'make' again, and provide all of the text which is
output by that second 'make' command.

Thank you very much in advance

Seeing that you've reposted the same message (differing only in a single
added space) in less than five hours, and failed even to respond in your
repost to the single (admittedly not especially helpful) reply you *had*
already received, *and* that you did the exact same thing with a
different help request over on mplayer-users, I don't think you're
particularly welcome.

It can sometimes take *days* to get a response, depending on the
difficulty and/or inanity of the question. That's an extreme case, but
it is almost always worth waiting at least one full day before sending a
ping to get more attention - and then, if you do that, it should be sent
as a *reply* to your initial message, not as a repost of that message.
