Subject: RE: Radeon 9500 - no DRI

i further found that:
(EE) [GLX]: Failed to add GLX extension (NVIDIA XFree86 driver not found)
it seems you have run nvidia drivers and there is some lib around
that might be heavily modified and not really backwards compatible.

there were more doubtfull things:
(II) Loading extension FGLRXEXTENSION
(II) Loading extension ATITVOUT
(==) RandR enabled
Symbol __glXActiveScreens from module
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.a is unresolved!
Symbol __glXActiveScreens from module
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.a is unresolved!
(II) Setting vga for screen 0.
but thats possibly a minor problem.

but you possibly already got the root cause:
the fglrx drivers (from ATI not from DRI developers)
do need the fglrx kernel module - that modules must
be loadlable via a "modprobe fglrx" (as X11 does on startup),
if a later "lsmod" does not show it then this is the problem.

you might even need a look at the driver's readme
which describes how to build a custom kernel module.
thats needed if none of the precompiled kernel modules
does match your kernel.

there might be some quite other reason why you dont get
DRI hardware rendering, but the above is the most common
for the reported message.
