Since you can run DRI as root, it seems to be installed ok. One thing I
noticed is that, once the device is created, the permissions in
XFree86Config don't do much.

Check that
'ls -l /dev/dri' gives "drwxr-xr-x"
'ls -l /dev/dri/card0' gives "crw-rw-rw"
or simply (as root) type
'chmod 755 /dev/dri' and 'chmod 666 /dev/dri/card0'

I had to do this myself because I didn't have the right mode settings when
I first ran X.
