DRI only works for root - normal solution does NOT work: msg#00158video.dri.user
I have been using DRI like this for a long time, and it has recently become a huge annoyance: DRI can only be used as root, and not by any ordinary user. As you can see, this is both a major inconvinence and a security risk. However, the obvious solution, simply putting the section "DRI" in the Xfree86 config file, and setting the mode to 0666 or even 777 does not work. In the GLXinfo utility as root, everything seem to be okay, but as a regular user, it does nothing for about 20 seconds, and reports that the usage of direct rendering is not allowed (dosen't specify why) and it falls back to software rendering. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I'm using an ATi Radeon 7500 PCI version, and my system has both kernel version 2.4.10 and 2.4.19, as well as XFree86 4.30.
