Subject: RE: MergedFB Mode Usage

Alex,

I went ahead and switched crtc1&2 around in my config file and changed
bpp to 16 as you suggested but still when I do a startx I get
black/blank screens. My updated config file and the latest log file are
below.

The only thing I see in the log file is that it gives an error "No valid
mode found for CRTC2" (see snippet below). I double-checked the hsync
and vrefresh ranges with the external minitor specs. and they match si I
don't know what could be wrong. Again, any suggestions are welcome.

(II) RADEON(0): CRT2 modes validation ------------
(II) RADEON(0): HSync for MergedFB Mode from config file: 31-64
(II) RADEON(0): VRefresh for MergedFB Mode from config file: 50-75
(II) RADEON(0): DDC detection (type 0) for MergedFB modes
(II) RADEON(0): I2C bus "DDC" initialized.
(II) RADEON(0): Total number of valid DDC mode(s) found: 0
(EE) RADEON(0): No valid mode found for CRTC2
(II) RADEON(0): Total of 0 MergedFB modes found ------------

(II) RADEON(0): Validating modes on Primary head (DDCType: 0) ---------

Subject: Re: [Dri-users] MergedFB Mode Usage

I've not tried mergedfb on PPC, but it looks like you have your crtcs
mixed up. usually crtc1 is the LCD/DVI and crtc2 is the CRT. Also
where are you getting this option:
Option "ForceCRT2Type" "LCD"
I don't see that in the 4.3.0 sources and the driver ignores it:
(WW) RADEON(0): Option "ForceCRT2Type" is not used.

Are you using radeonfb? I'm not sure if mergedfb works in combination
with radeonfb. you might try not loading radeonfb. if you have to run
radeonfb, and you've reversed the crtcs using radeonfb, you might have
to upgrade to cvs and use the "MonitorLayout" option to switch the
crtcs. Just a guess, I don't use radeonfb. Apple may have also wired
the DACs wrong. their is a fix for this in CVS, but alas I haven't
updated my patches to build against the most recent cvs.

Also 16 MB of ram is not enough for 3D accel on a 2048x768 framebuffer
with 24 bpp. you'll need to switch to 16 bpp if you want 3D.

the monitor section should refer to what is connected to crtc1, which
if I'm right, should be your LCD not your monitor. then use the
CRT2HSync and CRT2Vrefresh options to supply the ranges for your
external monitor.

There also may be an issue with using crtc2 on PPC. does xinerama
based dualhead work for you? how about dualhead in macos?
