Matrox G550 OpenGL palette issues? (XFree86 4.3.0): msg#00087

Subject: Matrox G550 OpenGL palette issues? (XFree86 4.3.0)

I have a matrox G550, am running XFree86 4.3.0, and have tried
the standard drivers that came with Slackware's XFree86 4.3.0 and
several latest snapshots within the last week and a half.

A lot of programs seem to have problems (And have been for a
while, been using this matrox since just before Slackware 8.1 came out)

Some examples: Quakeforge has the issue when using the standard
XFree86 drivers, that the textures are all 'rainbow'. Under the new
drivers, textures are fine (Drivers released on 07/14/03) but the gun
models appear all black, and smoke trails, etc appear as large gray
blocks rather than proper smoke trails. Also, menu text is overlayed on
large black rectangles, rather than being translucent through to the
game screen.

Quake2 : Also has the rainbow texture issues with the XFree86 4.3.0
drivers, also corrected with the latest drivers, but the text seems to
be overlayed wrong. Hard to describe, text appears too fat.

Soldier of Fortune: Under standard drivers, things seem to display
correctly (For as far as I could get) but no mouse cursor was drawn on
the screen. With the latest drivers, there are noticebly more
graphical glitches: the infantry company and tank on the activision
just appear as large black rectangles, the little target points on the
spinning globe in the main menu appear as solid circles, rather than
concentric circles, and the ingame text seems to have the same issues
as Quake2. Also, the new driver still does not draw the mouse cursor.

Unreal Tournament: No mouse cursor is drawn with either driver, and in
the intro screen, in the 4.3.0 version of the drivers, the textures all
seem too green, the texture issues seem resolved in todays release.
Unfortunately, the lack of a mouse pointer makes this game unplayable.
Same with Soldier of Fortune.

All of the graphical glitches in these games can be circumvented by
disabling DRI, at a LARGE performance hit.

I am not subscribed to the list, so replies being CC'd to be would be
greatly appreciated.
