Subject: RE: Wanna try the latest IDE client?

Correction:

What I said below is, well, wrong. :-)

msiexec /a does nothing by extract the
contents of the msi file. It does not
register the IDE component as the SCC
provider.

Good news: msiexec /a therefore should
not mess up your existing installation.

Bad news: This approach isn't at all
useful for testing the new IDE component.

Bottom line: To test the new IDE component,
you'll have to install build 2083 on a
machine where the Vault client is not
installed at all.

vaultdemo.sourcegear.com has now been upgraded
to build 2083.

It *is* possible to install two instances of
the Vault client, with certain caveats.
Run the client installer from the command line
using msiexec and the /a option:

msiexec /a 2083_VaultClient_2_0_0.msi

However, we have not tested this extensively.
The new installation may interfere in some
ways with the existing installation.

In particular, since the specific subject of
this thread is related to the IDE client,
it should be pointed out that the new installation
**WILL** interfere with the 1.2.3 version you
already have installed. Only one SCC component
can be registered at a time. When you install
the 2083 client, when you ask it to register
itself as the SCC provider, it will effectively
replace the 1.2.3 IDE SCC provider.

Caveat tester...

Can the client be installed on a computer that has 1.2.3 installed? And is
there a public 2.0 vault server to test against?

Thanks,

For those of you who have been frustrated with

the performance of Vault IDE client:

Please consider giving our latest 2.0 preview

build a try:

http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=69

As with other occasions when we have made changes

which we believed would improve the performance of

the IDE client, we are being "cautiously optimistic".

Given the nature of the changes we made, it is

possible that users will experience a performance

improvement which is quite dramatic. However, we

would like to hear feedback from customers on this

issue: Is build 2083 noticeably faster for you

than version 1.2.3? How much faster?

Note that asking you to evaluate this build is

no small request. We are not yet recommending

that anyone switch to Vault 2.0 for production

use. In order to see how much performance

improvement you experience, you will probably

need to setup a separate Vault server.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can

provide,
