Hmmm, you should be able to grab an executable by now and not have to
install all that.

Gerry, Alan: how can we get the prereleases out so people don't have to
have perl or any Perl modules installed?

Some questions:

What OS?

How long did it take?

How many files are in this repository?

How many labels?

Can you look at the last few pages of vcp.log and see an suggestive
details about what it was doing (and possibly what's wrong)?

Did you check "top" (for Unix) or the Performace Monitor (for Windows)
to see what's eating CPU?
