OK, mea culpa should have read the manual before, nevertheless this
special behaviour on failed applies should be mentioned somehow in the
--help message. As it seems to be a save option, but caused me an email
loop of about 15MB for a patch with only a few lines of code.

I think a check to avoid that sort of email loop would be trivial and
could save one a lot of trouble.
