Choosing A Webhost:
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation. more...

I don't think this is the correct list for your question. The CVS lists

Hi Glen - thanks for the reply.. I figured it was a Tortoise issue since
the command line CVS worked OK on the host itself.. However...

Looks like that might be some sort of firewall breakage. Can you telnet to the server on port 2401? Are you running a firewall?

No firewall (well, not on these boxes - that's all handled at the
network border(s), I digress) - however I'd forgotten to check the base
xinetd config in xinetd.conf, and it was restricting service access to
localhost only.. Whoops!

That's typically not recommended, since there are issues in working with a network drive, but it should work.

That's a shame - would make Tortoise pretty useless (for me) if it only
worked with files stored on the local PC :( In which case, I might have
to go back to just using the command line tools on the server (which is
where the files are also stored, shared via Samba). I'll give it a shot and see what happens..

Another tip: CVSNT runs on Linux (and several other *nix systems) and has a superior feature set compared to cvshome CVS.

I'd noticed that - but have been running plain cvs for a little while so just kept on as I had been, I might try it out on the standby Linux box though - shame there's no Gentoo ebuild for it really, I'll have to (shock, horror) manually build it.. :)

Anyhow - thanks for the reply Glen - you were right, it wasn't a
Tortoise issue, and you reminded me to check something I'd forgotten to
look at :) All working now :) (Apart from when WindowBlinds is running, and then all the dialogs are blank :/ )
