RE: Samba Share / Map Network Drive / Tortoise and Command Line Issues: msg#00030

Subject: RE: Samba Share / Map Network Drive / Tortoise and Command Line Issues
Appreciate you asking... I want to make sure this setup isn't going to
cause any grief in the future either.

On my XP system, I've got an R drive mapped to my samba share. Once the
drive is mapped, I create a folder on the remote system 'cvsRepository'.
Otherwise as 'R:\cvsRepository'. CVSROOT for the XP system is set as:
:pserver:USERNAME-xQX43kK5Zro@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:PORT/opt/cvs/repository

When I SSH to my linux box, obviously the 'cvsRepository' dir is already
there. Otherwise mapped as:
/home/USERNAME/cvsRepository
CVSROOT for my shell account is:
/opt/cvs/repository

In either system (XP or SSH), I can 'cd' into 'cvsRepository' and
checkout a module. I've been able to update, edit, unedit, commit, etc.
in any system just fine so far. This allows me to work on XP from one
location and not have to worry if I'm remote. I can still SSH in and get
to my files if really needed.

Thanks,
~jerry

Just a sanity check here: What CVSROOT are you using on the different
machines? How are you doing this syncing?

I'm feeling around here in case you have a repository that is shared out

through a samba share (with the ,v files) then you are trying to use
:local: to access it over the network -- That practice is highly
discouraged for a few reasons (the likelihood of repository corruption,
lack of good locking, and it is easy to set up a server properly).
