Generally speaking, don't be afraid to run the 1.1preX series or even
the head revision. The biggest instability in those versions tends to
be changing command syntaxes -- I try to avoid breaking core stuff.
The idea of having a really flaky unstable branch for a revision
control system doesn't make a lot of sense since archives are
long-lived --- there's certain kinds of bugs that, if you were to get
users running them, you'd be really screwed. (I hope that doesn't
turn out to be "famous last words" :-)
