what do you mean by unable to connect to the internet? and what ip
address did you ping and what was the response?
some points to ponder.
1) check with dig / nslookup to see if you are able to resolve ip
address.
2) try to see if you are able to connect to a random website, say
www.google.com
3) see that there is no firewall blocking your outgoing connections.
