Re: Talk on Linux certification: msg#00093

Subject: Re: Talk on Linux certification
I have been consulting on Linux for the past 4 years
and have over 8 years experience in Unix/Linux.

Certifications are to be taken with a pinch of salt.
There is no way that you can expect stuff like kernel
patching from a RHCE or ANY CE for that matter. You
get that kind of stuff only from people with real time
experience.

Please understand that this is not the fault of the
student either. Nobody is a superman and yu cannot
expect to learn too much in a 2 month course.

What you can expect from RHCE (if he is diligent.)
sendmail/squid/apache/samba.

What you cannot expect-
shell scripting - he will not even understand much -
forget about writing them.
iptables - no chance at all.
even squirrelmail for that matter and pretty much
everything else.

I have actually hired a RHCE and know exactly where he
can be very useful and where he cannot give any
inputs.

I do have an analysis of why this is and how this can
be rectified - do mail back if you want me to talk on
this.
