Thanks Calvin,
I tried using gtkpod to write a .wav file to the ipod. The ipod always 
says "Do not disconnect." whenever it's connected.

I waited a while and disconnected anyway. Now all the playlists are gone 
except "On-the-go" and that's empty.

Very sad. Any advice?
