One of my Tamil friends was editing Rajnikanti article in wikipedia.
He was trying to add his new upcoming movie. Rajnikanth is a superstar
in Tamil movie industry, south India. He asked me, do you have your
country artist like Rajnikanth listed in wikipedia. I presumably said,
oh! yea there must be lot. Check Bhuwan KC, Rajesh Hamal, Shiva
Shrestha...! Well I don't know really these article does exist in
wikipedia. I checked later found none of them were on the list. Rajesh
Hamal does have one but just a few line sentences with few link in his
birth place palpa, tansen. I found none of article does exist for
palpa or tansen as well. I checked lots of things around. Found
political leaders, Party and other known figures. With few tidbits
incomplete bias ambiguous information of those who were actually known
in international community in recent year. I checked history logs
found whoever maintain those are most of the foreigner and few
Nepalese guys especially college student.

I wonder might be Devkota has some comprehensive text on wikipedia.
Went through named Laxmi Prasad devkota. His profile was left
incomplete and even in some cases with ambiguous photo and text.

Even Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya has few paragraphs and most of the
section are empty.
I lost my hope in rest of the well known nepali literature
personalities. Leave Sam leave Bhatta Leave Chalisey forget Bhupi

I was shocked, when I found Bhanubhakta Acharya has few lines... I
wonder whether wikipedia itself is unpopular among Nepalese. Is it
lack of awareness among our intellectual people, lack of knowledge,
lack of information, lack of everything that leads to ignorant.

Having no significant nepal related articles in wikipedia encourage me
to Post my feelings here. I feel its absolutely appropriate forum to
make raise this issue here. FOSS is being one of the forefront figure
in Nepal for OpenSource. Wikipedia emerged from same ideology
philosophy that we all advocate every time and the very purpose of
wikipedia is almost same.

Well, for me at least I know Rajesh Hamal very well and I did collect
some fact and added few pics and some films. I felt something that I
can show up that guy tomorrow. He is like a Rajnikant of Nepal. He
seems to feel some existence of our Film industry in the wikipedia
that reflects somehow number of active community are their to bring
their well-known personalities inside wikipedia. Sad! Where is Bhuwan
KC, Gauri Malla, Bipana, Shiva Shrestha, Shashi Shash, Nir Shah ...

I know very well, I'll never be able to complete his biography,
filmography. I will hardly get succeed to lock up this article.
That's not my area though. I am not an expert in the subject but at
least I can say that I contribute something that I felt I should do.

If we can aware this fact to our Journalist or intellectual community,
they could have contribute vast amount of information that will really
begin a new wave of Nepal related information in wikipedia. Even
guys over here can do something helpful.

BTW,

Who is your favorite Nepalese actress?
What is your favorite nepalese novel? [ Seto Bagh, Pagal, Basti
Sumnima, Nilo choli ;) etc..]
Who is your favorite Nepalese singer, band?

Re: Call for FOSS Ka Kura Presentation

Dear Fossians, "New Generation Technology (NGN)" sounds good one. Have anyone talked about the venue as well. What about KEC or KCC. you can talk with the FOSS community over there. -- Best Regards, Ekta Silwal

Re: Wikipedia and Nepal

well the reason i believe is due to lack of knowledge about the wiki site.. you and i know that this site exits but wat about the guys back in nepal who hardly could manage to get online. they go to cyber and use internet...well most of them... and when you pay to use the internet who cares about writing a long article and who would even care to find the sites like wiki. and the people who already know the site might not even know that they can post some of their as well... for the upcoming generations the IT means a computer with good graphics card and play the ***kin game whole day ... well i'm not against playing game.. but why wud you waste energy playing game all the time... and also in a country hit my load shedding problem... save energy.., let someone else use it who knows how to use it in a proper way... n those who know how to utilize it .. and caught in between career and good times ... there are millino of lost souls in our country... haha... n' regarding our actors and so ... i have no clue... it wud be better if we write about our poets... i would personally like to read an article about the great Laxmi Prasad Devkota... having said that.. you can judge my mentality... i'm not willing to write it.. i want to read it ... reasons: there "are not enough" articles accessible to... there isn't any access... i would like to see articles about our remote places.. like dailekh humla jumla ... there are thousands of places like ... i remember once in "lonely planet" (program in discovery channel)... mr wright was in humla or somewhere.. it was so pleasing to see that part.. it really was... i have to run now.. not allowed to do these things from office he he .. may bei'll continue it someday soon..
