hehe... those were old days Prakash. =)

Sorry this mail is rather a lengthy one. Couldn't help it. =) This
message is not based on some pukka research and the views are all mine.

IMO one laptop per child would help kids learn something. do their
homework and study effectively. it would enable them to communicate and
contribute to minimising the digital divide that exist today. I strongly
feel that increase in digital divide today = Increase in poverty tomorrow.

Regarding ordering 1 million units, I'm sure something can be fixed with
the OLPC people to get < 1 mil units ?

OLPC laptop distribution if "ordered" should be taken care of by someone
experienced in the goverment (in short, some non-ghusiya + respected
committee). IMO that should leave no room for corruption.

1 million units * $100 = $100,000,000 * 69.8 = $698,000,000 which is a
hefty amount of money. What's the status so far ? Since I haven't seen
positive response from our goverment, where's it heading? What's being
done to get laptops to our country's kids besides few developers
(Shankar and others :-) ) working on it ?

Also on the other hand it's no 100% automagic thing that would work to
our country's need so it needs to be looked up by some sort of study
commission *in* Nepal. Goodluck to everyone involved in it trying to get
support for OLPC on goverment level. =)

If people haven't been following olpc, visit it's wiki @
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Home and everything should be clear cut.
Also http://www.olpcnepal.org (in active development by wonderful
Shankar bro + others). =)
