just release...it make a distinct name, don't it?. yea! we have our
own distribution. we feel happy , community here doing the best.
technically, they can do it. thats how you leave a good impact.
unfortunately, i never wanna make remark that this is what linux will
untimely failed against its enemies who declares it as a cancer of the
century. afraid of this reality, It will fail to catch the progress,
envision long ago and the most feared part is well we know it. This,
as heart of the issue, everyone feels but never show off because their
distro has made their life pretty easy. often, I feared myself when
tends to treat some distro a diff platform, reluctant to switch because
feel its different. Despite of this fear and rejection, I have to
switch, at the time, I am dunked in the water. Friends circle around
me and give shit about my dizzies, but really it made be fool. I have
seen people being schadenfreude towards this community but that make me
no wonder. Its true its our misfortune being a over freedom and
enjoying it because we believe ourself a stubborn geek.

long ago when SCO was a pretty good friend of Linux Community, with
good initiative of few leading distro formed a LSB backed by Novell,
RedHat .. more. The goal was pretty taugh -- develop and promote a
set of standards for compatibility among Linux distro. they excited us,
didn't they? As the community itself so diverse sometime impossible
to reach in one agreement. Big communities huh!... even LSB had hard
time to unite all. ..In number you count ..you find almost 2 dozen
commercial distribution still active..if you have to those, not
commercially, like debian and the derived like knoppix,
ubuntu....nepallinux it will sure surpass the figure...

However, whatever about to happen to LSB, I never gonna blame except
those who backed it, touted the compliant, yet many don't and will
never, those in Redhat and Novell, who love to mess the fundamental
aspect of OpenSource theory or any standardization process, are the
major obstacle to make this process into reality. They ripe the benefit
from cloned model of their secondary distro which is a shadow fully
owned by them as show case ...afterall they are opensource, aint they?.
If they have gut to sepak about FOSS model as they were touting..ask
them to release iso of redhat and suse...will they do..? why they are
not releasing iso with sources or binary? Why they are cloning into
shadow distro?..Until we get this answer we cannot say when
standardization will begin. I dare to compare Sun Solaris as
redhat/suse and OpenSolaris as fedora/opensuse...! and why have no
reserved surprise that if redhat/novell changes its license to CDDL..

the main issue behind Debian, as being outside the sphere of LSB member
company, was not adopting the innovation the debian has been doing. The
dispute between standard package manager format was one of the crucial
point where things are about to go ... The point of package format RPM
dictating the specification leads the debian no LSB-compliant by
default. To make me here point is most of successful distribution in
the world are debian derived and if things leads like this, the dream
of full-lsb complaint will be in vain.

i see no future of desktop linux until this crucial issue is resolved
and the biggest hurdle are two self clamed linux distro Novell SuSE and
RedHat.start to realized..

till this day I believe releasing new distro make no sense. All effort
we are pushing for localization or whatever are just for knowledge and
experience...! even in ceratin country it did take a lead..will hardly
last .. there is no real standardization draft so everyone can't comply
with it. the ultimate user will always perfer windows. this is where
the problem increasingly raising.

anyway whatever the case is the days are sure ahead and the effort
nepallinux team is doing will be fruitful. take my case no against any
of your effort but the future itself is not cerntain for linux so its
just my feared.

Re: NEPALINUX RELEASED !!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Nepalinux team, Congratulations!!! Your days of sincere hard work has produced an yet another version of Nepalinux with GNOME 2.14 for the Nepali community. I hope the upgraded version of OpenOffice.org 2.0.2 Hunspell spellchecker and thesaurus files for the Nepali language would be a major attraction as the earlier 2.0 version was lacking many dictionary rules and root words. Nevertheless, it had already won a lot of favour. Well the upgrade must have been intensive and from scratch owing to the major library file dependencies of Linux . Similarly the newer translations of Gnome 2.14 might have been a lot of works. We all are waiting for this release. Ubuntu 6.10 and fedora core 6 in Wlink Local server

Hey guys, Ubuntu 6.10 and fedora core 6 are now in Wlink Local server (http://opensource.wlink.com.np). I downloaded all 5 cds of fedora and Ubuntu 6.10. It was pretty fast. Ubuntu 6.10: Not much change Boot and shutdown is far more faster with their new init program (eemm forgot what it is called). The install option contains "Nepali" but most things are not in Nepali. Fedora 6: Art work and new GNOME is awesome. -- --------------------------------------------------------------- regards Manish Regmi --------------------------------------------------------------- UNIX without a C Compiler is like eating Spaghetti with your mouth sewn shut. It just doesn't make sense.
