Subject: RE: Where do you find IT clients?
I hope this is not out of line with the rules of PADNUG's e-mail list, but
next Tuesday questions like those being discussed will be addressed by Tom
Howe at the Oregon Computer Consultants Association meeting. Here's the
announcement that just came into by In-Box this morning:

Next Tuesday's Oregon Computer Consultants Association meeting:

OCCA Monthly Meeting (free and open to the public)

Title: The Business Side of Consulting

Date: Tuesday, June 27, 2006

Time: 7:00-8:30PM (No-host dinner at 6:00PM)

Speaker: Tom Howe, Speaker, Author, Lawyer, Editor

Place: Rheinlander German Restaurant

5035 NE Sandy Blvd

Portland OR 97213-1941

GOALS OF THE SESSION

This session focuses on the business side of computer consulting

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

Your business savvy has more to do with your business and financial success
than your technological prowess. Most consultants and software companies
fail not because they are lousy developers. They fail because they do not
take care of the business side.

WHAT WE WILL COVER

* Business Plans

* Marketing Plans

* Setting your fees and costs

* Sales materials

* Meetings with clients and demo?s.

* Sales techniques.

* Closing the sale

* Contract issues

* Legal Issues

* Getting paid

* Other Stuff

I think PADNUG is due for a seminar about selling yourself as a consultant.
All small business owners need to wear the salesman/marketer hat from time
to time. Software guys would probably like to not have to think about it
though. My 2 cents.
