Thanks, Luke. That works. I wish I would have asked before uninstalling
everything.

My installation is just like yours except for the WIN2003 Advanced Server
part (I'm XP Pro) - I still had to install IIS. I remember my first reaction
was like this but then I realized that coming from VS 2003 where the initial
VB templates for both web and non-web were lumped under Visual Basic. Under
VS 2005 I have to go File->New Web Site for web apps and File->New Project
for non-web apps (except web control libraries which are under the non-web
app category).

Subject: [padnug] VS 2005 Install issue

I have finally got around to setting up my development machine for Visual
Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005. When I finished it did not ask me what
language I wanted to use like it is supposed to. Further, it did not have a
template for a web applications. I searched Google about the template and
found an item that said point the template option to the program directory
rather than the my documents directory. This found a few more but not the
web app one. I use VB.NET, but C# did not list it either.

I set this up on a new hard drive on a new computer. Since I have MSDN
Universal I installed Windows2003 Advanced server as the OS. I then
installed IIS which does not install automatically anymore. Then I installed
Office2003, then SQL server2005(I installed all of the options like
reporting and analytical services). Finally I installed VS2005 selecting a
full installation. As I mentioned, when I started VS2005 the first time it
just came up without asking about my preferred language. When it did start I
noticed that there was a lot of mention about SQL Server 2005 on the start
page. When I selected create project and picked VB it had templates for
Windows apps, console apps, database apps and libraries, but no web app.

I thought, maybe, because I first installed the SQL Server with all the
goodies VS installed as an adjuct to SQL Server. I uninstalled everything
and just installed the VS2005, but the web template still is not there.

Does anyone have any ideas? My next thing will be to wipe the disk clean and
reinstall the OS, maybe just the server instead of the advance server.
Thanks for any help on this.
