Well if the 3rd party route isn't feasible I suppose one thing you could try is 
creating a browser object, opening up the HTML, & firing the print method. Like 
this article implies:

  But like you said, if it's gonna take you days or weeks to do it yourself, 
the 3rd party components will start looking more attractive. :)

I'll look into that. I was hoping to achieve this without using 3rd party
components, but this itself turns in a huge project then I guess I'm left
