There was only one subnet in my case, too. However if you have virtual
machines (or even physical machines) on the other end of a bridge they
appear to have trouble resolving netbios names. This is something that
WINS sorts out for you. I do not know in detail how netbios works so
cannot provide any explanation but "it worked for me".
